Your magical story needs its beasts. This is a resource for writers.

Hello, my name is AR Jung and I am a writer in Houston, TX. Welcome to my writing blog. Here I will post new ideas, short stories and information about myself and my work. I also am hoping over time to accumulate enough information about mythological creatures to have this be a resource for people writing magical realism, fantasy, science fiction, mythpunk etc.

There are so many fantastic reference books out there about mythological creatures, so there is no sense in reinventing the wheel. I will, to the best of my ability, set this blog apart, by including writing prompts, examples of movies and popular written work as source materials for your own writing. If a character has been used in film or books, I will link to the source information. I will also include back story, etymology and original geographical and ethno-cultural sourcing for each character, if it is available. This will be an ever evolving project. Please check back often for updates, and as always…happy writing! #amwriting

  1. I must admit, I worry about Show not tell, because my writing style is very instinctive, I write straight from my mind without prior editing or planning. I hope that what I produce gets the balance between tell and show correctly. 🙂 Thanks for the interesting video.

    1. You’re welcome- I am the same way. I was looking for validation that my style is, “ok.” I think writing and getting it all down is the most important. You can “fix,” it later.

      1. Exactly- I think this is the crossroad you come to in your writing. If you’re willing to push through and be sloppy and then clean it up- you’re turning towards success. At least that’s in all of the literature about the craft.
